Angel Reese Suspended Following Controversial Comments

Angel Reese has stirred up some headlines this week due to what many deemed “harmful” remarks directed at her teammates and coaches. As a result, she will spend a bit less time with her team for now.

On Friday, the Chicago Sky announced her suspension for the first half of their upcoming game against the Las Vegas Aces.

In a statement, the Sky emphasized, “We value the safety, respect, and happiness of all players. We are committed to accountability so that players can focus on the game.” Reese will miss the initial half of the match scheduled for September 7 because of her comments during league-mandated media. They also added, “This issue has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team.”

The Sky currently sits in a difficult spot, dealing with a challenging 10-31 season. Despite Reese’s accumulating praise and achievements, the team hasn’t managed to convert that into wins.

Earlier this week, Reese expressed her frustrations about the team’s management, praising the quest for “great players.”

“We can’t settle for the same stuff we’ve experienced this year,” the star forward noted. “It’s essential to bring in good players—and not just good, but great players. I can’t negotiate on that. I want to play alongside the best.”

She emphasized that the upcoming offseason would be crucial to ensure the team attracts top talent.

However, her comments went further. Reese hinted that she might consider leaving the team if her requests aren’t addressed. “I want to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, I might need to look for other options. Still, while I’m here, I’ll voice my thoughts and try to maximize my potential,” she stated.

Later, Reese adopted a more conciliatory tone, saying her earlier remarks stemmed from frustration. “I might be frustrated with myself right now,” she reflected after the Connecticut Sun’s 88-64 win on Wednesday. “I think what I said was out of context, and I didn’t mean to upset anyone.”

Ultimately, she acknowledged, “It’s not just about the message, but the messenger too, so I really need to choose my words more carefully.”
