Bill Maher Calls for Resignation of HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
On Friday, comedian Bill Maher urged Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to resign. “It’s just—he has to go,” Maher stated during that day’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher.
Maher labeled Kennedy as “nuts” following some recent dismissals by Susan Monares, a key advisor at the CDC. His criticism coincided with Kennedy’s testimony before a Senate Finance Committee, where he avoided questions related to COVID-19 deaths and made inaccurate claims about vaccine accessibility.
In a pointed comment, Joe Kennedy III, Robert’s nephew and former Congressman from Massachusetts, accused his uncle of undermining science and misleading the public. “Robert Kennedy Jr. is a threat to the health and well-being of all Americans,” he noted, highlighting the role of the Secretary in safeguarding public health.
Kelly Kennedy, Robert’s sister, also expressed her concerns, urging him to resign due to inadequate health guidance. “Medical decisions should be made by trained, licensed professionals, not by misguided leadership,” she emphasized, warning that such leadership could endanger lives.
Maher, initially expressing some sympathy for Kennedy’s ambitions to improve America’s health, later criticized him for being disconnected. “He’s too nuts. He’s just not listening,” he commented, metaphorically describing it as a “pendulum” that needs to stop swinging.
Maher concluded with a metaphorical reference, stating, “The knife is out for Bobby Kennedy, and I have to say, I’m with the knife.” Meanwhile, President Trump remarked that Kennedy offers a “different perspective,” sparking some interest despite the surrounding concerns about his views on medical care and vaccines.
