Florida Couple Arrested After Intervening in Child Discipline Incident

A couple in Florida has been taken into custody following an alleged assault on a mother who was disciplining her 4-year-old son, according to police reports.

The mother explained to authorities that her son was acting out and even spat in her face. In response, she slapped him once on the mouth and another time on the side of his body.

According to reports, Terry Williams, 66, intervened, insisting that she should not hit the child, claiming to have previously worked with the Florida Department of Children and Families.

The mother said she asked the man to leave her alone and tried to walk away. However, his wife, Mary Talia Williams, 63, approached her aggressively to discuss the discipline method used.

During the confrontation, Mary allegedly blocked the mother’s path to her car, resulting in a struggle when the mother tried to push her aside. In the ensuing altercation, Mary scratched and choked the mother.

The victim reported feeling faint as Mary grasped her shirt, with Terry joining in to grab the victim’s hair and clothing. Witnesses indicated that the mother was trying to escape rather than fight back.

One bystander described the scene, noting, “They were on both sides, just grabbing her and ripping the scrub shirt off her.” Eventually, Mary entered the car, switched off the engine, and took the victim’s keys.

Mary Williams has been charged with robbery and simple assault, while Terry faces assault charges. It was confirmed that neither of them are currently affiliated with DCF.

Mary has been held on a $5,000 bail, while Terry was released after posting $2,500 bail. When approached by a reporter regarding the situation, Terry’s reaction was surprisingly indifferent, stating, “Wow, really? That’s interesting.”
