Florida Gators Defensive Lineman Kicked Out for Spitting Incident

In an unexpected twist during the Florida Gators’ upset loss to South Florida, defensive lineman Brendan Bett was ejected from the game for spitting on an opponent. This incident occurred as the Bulls were mounting a crucial drive.

While facing off against South Florida offensive lineman Cole Skinner, Bett defiantly spat onto Skinner’s face mask. This action led to an immediate ejection with just over two minutes remaining in the game, giving Florida a 15-yard penalty. Following that, South Florida’s Nico Gramatica secured an 18-16 victory with a 20-yard field goal.

Now, regarding Bett—he’s a second-year transfer student from Baylor and had previously played ten games with the Bears in 2023. Last season, he wore a redshirt but saw limited action in the Texas Bowl. Just last week, he participated in 15 defensive plays against Long Island.

The win was significant for South Florida, especially after their recent triumph over No. 25 Boise State. This time, Florida entered the game ranked 13th nationally.

In the broader context of the game, South Florida’s quarterback Bylam Brown had a solid performance, racking up 263 passing yards and a touchdown, alongside 66 rushing yards. Conversely, Florida’s quarterback, DJ Lagway, threw for 222 yards with one touchdown but also had an interception. The Gators did manage a brief lead early in the fourth quarter but faltered afterwards, ultimately punting on consecutive drives.

This spitting incident wasn’t isolated, as it echoed a similar recent event in the NFL involving Philadelphia Eagles player Jalen Carter, who was ejected for spitting on Dak Prescott during a game.
