Jonah Tong’s Unique Take on Grilled Cheese

New York Mets pitcher Jonah Tong caught the attention of fans this week by sharing an unexpected food opinion. His hot take? He’s a big fan of soaking grilled cheese sandwiches in maple syrup.

In a recent interview, Tong discussed his unusual food pairing, which he first learned about from his grandfather. “The secret is maple syrup,” he mentioned. “It’s incredible.” He explained that he uses it as a dipping sauce, and honestly, it sounds kind of intriguing.

“Grilled cheese. Chop it up. Soak it. Incredible. That’s my favorite,” he added, reflecting on his unique culinary passion.

Tong was drafted by the Mets in the seventh round of the 2022 MLB Draft. After navigating the minor leagues, he made his debut on the major league roster. In his first start against the Miami Marlins, he pitched five innings, managing to hit six batters, and the Mets won 19-9. Quite a debut, right?

On Saturday, Tong faced the Cincinnati Reds but unfortunately picked up a loss, giving up four runs and three hits while again hitting six batters.

It’s funny how food preferences can spark conversations among fans. Who knows, maybe more people will start exploring their grilled cheese toppings after hearing Tong’s take!
