Homan states that Chicago should definitely anticipate immigration enforcement this week.

Tom Homan, a former official in Trump’s administration, stated that cities like Chicago, known as sanctuary cities, should brace for immigration enforcement next week.

When interviewed on CNN’s “Affiliated Status,” Homan affirmed that enforcement actions would indeed be coming to Chicago. He noted, “You can expect action in most sanctuary cities across the country.” He highlighted that these cities are under scrutiny because they reportedly pose public safety risks related to illegal immigration.

Homan pointed out that in Florida, there are fewer issues since local law enforcement agencies collaborate effectively with federal authorities, allowing for increased resources to address concerns in sanctuary cities.

He mentioned that Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has been made aware of upcoming enforcement efforts by the White House. “Governor Pritzker has been informed from the very beginning,” Homan stated regarding coordination with state officials for operations planned in Chicago.

He recalled, “I was there right after I took office,” explaining that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been active in the Chicago area for some time. “He knows what’s been happening. We were present just last week.”

Homan indicated that more federal resources are on the way, adding that “The National Guard will always be an option.” He reiterated that additional support is being sent to sanctuary cities and expressed frustration over the lack of cooperation from local officials. He specifically mentioned Mayor Brandon Johnson as someone who has failed to engage with them.

In recent weeks, Trump has hinted that Chicago is next in line for a large-scale immigration enforcement operation, amplifying that suggestion. Over the weekend, he shared a digitally altered image of himself in law enforcement gear, featuring a dramatic backdrop of burning buildings in Chicago and helicopters, alongside the phrase “Chipocalypse Now,” a play on the film “Apocalypse Now.”

“I love the smell of morning deportation. Chicago is trying to find out why it’s called the Department of War,” Trump wrote.

In response, Pritzker remarked on social media, “The US president is threatening to go to war with American cities. This is no joke. This is not normal.” He further criticized Trump, stating, “Donald Trump isn’t a strong man, he’s a scary guy. Illinois is not threatened by aspiring dictators.”
