Disturbed individual identified after being shot by NYPD while attempting to break into precinct and attack officer.

A chaotic scene unfolded in Brooklyn when a 36-year-old man, previously known for his criminal background, confronted police officers with a knife. Identified as Justin Coleman, he was involved in an altercation that led to his death after he attempted to harm a police officer.

This incident took place in the early hours of a Sunday morning, around 5:30 am, at the NYPD’s 73rd District Station in Brownsville. Reports indicate that Coleman tried to enter through the back door and assaulted a female officer, aiming for her throat.

Fortunately, the officer managed to resist, sustaining injuries but not fatal ones. Coleman fled the scene but was pursued, only to be confronted by police two blocks away. He refused to comply and allegedly charged at officers with a 14-inch butcher knife, prompting them to open fire.

The injured officer, who has two daughters—one of whom is retired from the NYPD—was visibly shaken by the encounter. PBA president Patrick Hendry noted the seriousness of the situation, emphasizing that the officer acted bravely despite her wounds.

“She knew the risk and still chose to protect the community,” Hendry remarked, pointing out her determination to stop the threat even while injured.

Though Coleman has not been officially named as a suspect, law enforcement sources attribute the violent actions to him, revealing a concerning pattern of behavior. Further information regarding his past arrest in 2024 remains unclear, as the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office has not yet responded to inquiries.

Hendry expressed the emotional toll the incident has taken on the officer’s family, describing the hospital visit as “traumatic.” He reiterated the perilous conditions police face daily, reminding the public that such attacks on officers cannot be tolerated and that there must be consequences for those who would harm law enforcement.
