Aaron Rodgers teases Jets fans while leaving MetLife

Aaron Rodgers Takes the Field Amid Mixed Reactions

Aaron Rodgers acknowledged the boos from Jets fans as he stepped onto the field at MetLife Stadium on Sunday—something he somewhat expected. After showcasing his skills with four touchdown passes, he seemed eager to gauge the crowd’s response.

As he walked off the field following the Steelers’ narrow 34-32 win, Rodgers cupped his hand to his ear, taking in the mix of boos and cheers that greeted him. With Steelers’ Cam Hayward and head coach Mike Tomlin by his side, he celebrated by pumping his fist to acknowledge the Pittsburgh supporters.

This matchup had been dubbed Rodgers’ revenge game, given his complicated split from the Jets and subsequent signing with the Steelers. When Aaron Glenn became the Jets’ head coach, Rodgers flew across the country to address the coaching staff, who indicated a shift in the quarterback direction they wanted to pursue.

In a recent appearance on The Pat McCaffrey Show, Rodgers expressed his frustrations regarding how his situation was handled, and although he tried to downplay his return to the field, he also admitted feeling good about “beating everyone involved with the Jets.” He pondered aloud, “Perhaps there were those in the organization who doubted my ability to play anymore.”

During the game, Rodgers completed 22 of 30 passes for 244 yards, including that six-play, 39-yard drive, allowing Chris Boswell to kick a clutch 60-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter.

Rodgers’ inaugural season with the Jets was cut short by an Achilles injury during his first offensive play, and his second year there was characterized by struggles that contrasted sharply with his MVP years with the Packers.

In this recent match, he efficiently threw four touchdown passes, matching his performance from only one previous game with the Steelers.
