Carlos Alcaraz Secures Second Open Title
Carlos Alcaraz clinched the second title of his career on Sunday, defeating Jannik Sinner with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
The Spanish tennis star celebrated his victory while President Donald Trump watched from the stands, making his first appearance at the men’s singles final since 2015.
Alcaraz made a crucial move during the eighth game of the fourth set, pouring his energy into the final moments and capitalizing on some of Sinner’s unforced errors.
Sinner, despite reaching the final as a top contender, struggled with his service. His performance included four double faults and only two aces, which left him unable to secure a win.
Trump entered Arthur Ashe Stadium about an hour prior to the match, and due to heightened security around the venue, many fans were still outside when the event started at 2:30 PM ET. Interestingly, Alcaraz seemed to take note of Trump’s presence ahead of the match.
“I think it’s a privilege for a tournament to have presidents attending and supporting tennis,” Alcaraz remarked, acknowledging the significance of playing in front of a figure like Trump. “I try not to dwell on it, but it’s great for the sport.”
Post-match, Trump expressed his enthusiasm for Alcaraz’s win. Alcaraz previously secured his first US Open title in 2022 and won the French Open earlier this year, although he fell short in the Wimbledon final. He reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
At just 22 years old, Alcaraz now boasts six Grand Slam titles, with the Australian Open being the only major event he has yet to conquer.
With this latest victory at Flushing Meadows, he may be positioning himself for the top rank in the world.
