Pittsburgh Steelers’ Chris Boswell Shines in Game Against Jets

When discussing NFL kickers, it’s usually all about their footwork or, let’s say, “big legs.” But Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had a unique description for veteran kicker Chris Boswell after a close game against the New York Jets, which ended with a Steelers victory of 34-23.

With just over a minute left in the game, Tomlin told reporters, “Our kicker is a serial killer. He has a low pulse rate.” It’s an unconventional metaphor, but it captures Boswell’s calmness under pressure. On that Sunday, he was perfect, converting two field goals and four extra points, including a remarkable 56-yard kick in the second quarter. Without his contributions, the outcome might’ve been different.

Tomlin noted, “The kicker always makes it from the 60 before the match. He doesn’t shy away from taking big shots.” It’s clear that Tomlin appreciates Boswell’s confidence and skill, especially in high-stakes situations.

Boswell joined the Steelers as an undrafted free agent back in 2015 and made a significant impact, boasting a 90.6% success rate in his rookie season. This performance solidified his place on the team’s roster.

Last season, he earned his second Pro Bowl selection and his first All-Pro nod, successfully completing 41 out of 44 field goal attempts, leading the NFL in the process. Impressively, he was 13 out of 15 on kicks over 50 yards.

This season, all eyes are on Pittsburgh, particularly given some notable new acquisitions, like Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf. The team seems poised for an exciting year ahead.

Winning in the opening week certainly helps quiet the doubters, at least for the time being.
