A young Phillies fan found himself in a bit of a chaotic situation after losing his home run baseball to some determined female fans. It was a moment that left him somewhat heartbroken.
Lincoln Feltwell ended up in the spotlight when, during a game against the Marlins in Miami, he was caught in a fracas as passionate fans yelled and scrambled for the ball just after it was hit. This all went down right as his 10th birthday was approaching.
Lincoln expressed his disappointment, saying, “I wasn’t thrilled about giving it up, but I guess we couldn’t do anything about it.” He felt like he had to surrender something valuable too soon.
“I thought I’d get it anyway,” the young boy added, his tone a mix of hope and resignation.
The whole scene unfolded as Lincoln’s father, Drew Feltwell, was part of a crowd racing to grab the ball that had just been struck by Phillies outfielder Harrison Bader.
In video footage, Drew can be seen returning to his family and giving the ball to Lincoln, who was ecstatic. But shortly after, a gray-haired fan approached, visibly agitated, demanding he hand it over.
“She was back there, and I was a bit taken aback,” Drew explained. “Maybe she thought it was hers, but I wasn’t quite sure what was happening as I was trying to keep track of the ball and manage the chaos.”
The woman claimed the ball had come down in her section, and when she confronted Drew, she shouted that it was “her ball” in a rather loud voice.
Drew jumped a bit from the surprise. “I was just trying to get out of the situation,” he recalled. The fan insisted that the ball belonged to her seats, even though Drew stated nobody was sitting there at the time.
In the end, to calm things down, he decided to hand the ball over. “By then, everything was a bit overwhelming, and the ball was already in Lincoln’s glove,” he shared.
The woman took the ball aggressively before returning to her seat, much to the chagrin of nearby fans who started booing.
After the incident, Lincoln was treated to some new baseball merchandise from the Marlins and had the chance to meet Bader, who even gave him a signed bat.
Meanwhile, the unnamed woman has faced some backlash online for her behavior during the game.
