Dorian Johnson, Friend of Michael Brown, Shot Dead
Dorian Johnson, the friend of 18-year-old Michael Brown, who was fatally shot by a police officer in Missouri 11 years ago, was killed over the weekend near the same site.
“There have been rumors about this being a shooting involving an officer, but that’s not true,” a statement from Ferguson Police clarified.
Johnson was present when Officer Darren Wilson confronted Brown in 2014. While Wilson asserted that he acted in self-defense, Johnson maintained that Brown was surrendering. He mentioned that Brown had raised his hands and “didn’t pose a threat.”
Previously, Johnson said, “He had his hands in the air… The officer still drew his weapon and fired. My friend died.”
However, a Department of Justice report found inconsistencies in Johnson’s statements. The report stated that his claims didn’t match available evidence.
The DOJ noted, “Witness statements suggesting Wilson contradicted physical evidence are unreliable due to internal contradictions or inconsistency with other credible evidence.” Despite this, Johnson continued to uphold his version of events.
“When he turned around, his hands were definitely up,” he asserted. “He was unarmed and posed no threat.”
Johnson, aged 33, was shot in what has been described as a “domestic incident” early Sunday morning. According to St. Louis County Prosecutor Melissa Price Smith, he suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Police confirmed that there were no officers involved in this shooting aside from initiating the investigation.
One suspect was arrested but then quickly released without facing charges. The investigation into Johnson’s death is ongoing.
