EasyGroup Launches EasyBitcoin App
Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the founder of the budget airline EasyJet, is entering the cryptocurrency market with the launch of the EasyBitcoin app this month.
This new app stems from a brand license agreement involving a broader Crypto Exchange initiative, part of the EasyGroup’s extensive portfolio of around 350 brands that range from gyms to coffee shops.
According to Haji-Ioannou, the aim of EasyBitcoin is to make Bitcoin transactions accessible to a wider audience.
“For too long, investment in Bitcoin felt like an exclusive club out of reach of the public at such high transaction costs,” he shared.
Reported initially by Bloomberg, the app allows users not only to purchase Bitcoin but also to earn rewards on their investments.
However, Haji-Ioannou is stepping into a densely populated market. Established companies like Coinbase and Kraken have been providing crypto trading for years, and the crypto landscape is expanding as Wall Street and fintech firms launch new services to compete. This puts EasyBitcoin in competition with platforms like Robinhood, Revolut, and PayPal.
In a notable moment this past August, Bitcoin hit an all-time high of $124,128, a spike supported by pro-cryptocurrency policies during the Trump administration. Nevertheless, market uncertainties have caused Bitcoin to dip nearly 10% from that peak.
Simon Mcloughlin, CEO of Uphold, believes EasyBitcoin’s rewards system could attract a significant audience that is familiar with Bitcoin but hesitant to dive in.
The platform offers incentives, such as a 1% welcome bonus and an annual yield of 4.5% on USD balances.
“This isn’t just about technology; it’s about financial empowerment and making Bitcoin a practical investment for everyone,” Haji-Ioannou emphasized.
