Essential travel tips from flight attendants you need to be aware of

Flying isn’t just about snacks and bumpy skies. Just ask Barbara “Barbie Buck” Bacilieri, an Argentine flight attendant.

This 29-year-old YouTuber, who shares her in-flight anecdotes with 2.7 million followers, recently outlined some essential rules for air travelers.

The first rule? Keep your jokes to yourself. Trust me, the crew doesn’t need an impromptu comedy act at 30,000 feet.

She recalled an unusual comment from a passenger after the movie “Society of the Snow” premiered. The person quipped, “If something happens, I agree to eat me to you.” Bacilieri was left baffled, saying, “What?! What is Jam?”

Her advice is clear: don’t attempt to be funny in the cabin.

Beyond humor, Bacilieri emphasizes food safety. There’s no tap water on planes, and yogurt shouldn’t be left in ice bags for long periods.

For comfort and safety, she recommends skipping stilettos. “Heels aren’t practical. In case of an evacuation, you’ll need to take them off, and you’ll have to walk a lot at the airport,” she explained.

Also, beware of the airplane bathroom: “That fluid on the floor? It’s not just water. You have no idea what’s been there.”

And let’s not romanticize those plane carpets either, as she pointed out.

Thinking about boarding early? Don’t bother. “Why do some passengers line up at the gate before the plane even arrives? They end up standing for ages,” she noted.

Sadly, even the blankets have their downsides. Although washed between flights, they still come with a history that’s hard to ignore.

Bacilieri’s mantra for travel is straightforward: keep humor in check, be prudent with your belongings, and trust your instincts while flying.

Another experienced flight attendant echoed her thoughts on what to wear. She cautioned against rompers, sandals, and revealing tops in cramped airplane conditions. “A definite no,” she insisted, reflecting on the less glamorous sides of air travel.

So, for your next flight, it might be wise to leave those high heels, jokes, and rompers at home. You’ll thank yourself later.
