Congressional Hearing on Unidentified Aviation Phenomena
During a recent Congressional hearing on Unidentified Aviation Phenomena (UAP), some startling claims emerged. In 1982, there was an incident involving an unidentified flying object that triggered significant concern among Russian officials.
Investigative journalist George Knapp testified before a House Oversight Subcommittee, revealing he had obtained Soviet documents suggesting UAPs were linked to potential global conflict. According to him, these documents indicated that, during a UFO sighting in 1982, Russia launched an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM).
He recounted an episode from October 1982 where a UFO appeared near an ICBM base, prompting missile targeting towards the United States. Knapp told the committee, “These UFOs perform incredible maneuvers. They can appear and vanish almost at will.” He mentioned that after four hours, the launch control codes for the missile were activated, raising serious concerns about the situation.
Knapp added that Russian military personnel seemed to panic when the UFO disappeared, but the ICBM’s launch control system eventually returned to normal. Officials at the time were perplexed, he noted. Unlike previous incidents where electromagnetic pulses or power surges were blamed, Knapp suggested this event presented a different kind of message, perhaps indicating the capabilities of the UFOs.
“That’s alarming,” he remarked. “We were merely seconds away from a major conflict—potentially World War III—and UFOs played a part in that.”
Recently, UFO sightings in the U.S. have surged, with over 60 reports in just the first half of 2025, as per the National Tracking Group.
Accompanying Knapp were several current and former military personnel sharing their encounters with UAPs. US Air Force veteran Jeffrey Nuxeteri recalled an incident at what was then Vandenberg Air Force Base in California in 2003. He described the chaotic moments on the radio when something seemingly ominous approached. His friend shouted, “It’s coming for us!” Shortly after, he claimed to have heard reports of the object being “shot down.”
Additionally, Chief Alexandro Wiggins, an active Navy officer, recounted a “Chick TAC” incident, emphasizing that the UAP did not exhibit the usual flight signature when he departed the area.
However, the origins and purpose of these unidentified objects remain unclear. The House Oversight Committee continues to seek clarity on why this information has been kept from the public, with calls for greater transparency surrounding UAP matters growing louder.
