Ethereum Treasury SharpLink Begins $1.5 Billion Stock Buyback

Simply put

  • Sharplink Gaming has started acquiring shares in SBET as a part of its $1.5 billion share buyback initiative.
  • The company repurchased 930,000 SBET shares, which is roughly valued at $15 million, at an average cost of $15.98 each.
  • Following this, SBET shares saw a 4.4% increase, even though they experienced a decline of over 31% in the previous month.

Sharplink Gaming announced its $1.5 billion share buyback program, marking a significant moment with the purchase of SBET shares valued at $15 million.

Based in Minneapolis, the company approved this program back in August. This action represents its first venture into share repurchases, having secured 930,000 shares averaging $15.98 each.

Joseph Chalom, co-CEO of Sharplink, stated, “Maximizing shareholder value is our top priority, as we aim to establish ourselves as the most trustworthy ETH Treasury Ministry in the industry.”

He further added, “We believe we are in a strong position, with a solid balance sheet, no debt, and robust ETH Treasury revenue. Currently, we think the market undervalues our business and we are focusing on responsible capital management to enhance shareholder value, instead of diluting shares when trading below NAV.”

The announcement coincided with SBET shares trading at around $16.40, which reflects a rise of approximately 4.6%. Yet, last month saw the shares and the company’s Treasury assets significantly diverge.

In the meantime, ETH gained 2.2%, whereas stocks plummeted by 31%.

Recently, Sharplink added upwards of $176 million in ETH to its Treasury, increasing its holdings significantly. The company has expressed a strong belief in Ethereum’s potential for generating revenue.

Sharplink is involved with the Linea Consortium, an assembly of Ethereum parallel entities responsible for distributing the majority of Linea Tokens within their ecosystem.
