Michael Ian Black Critiques Gavin Newsom’s Social Media Strategy

Liberal comedian Michael Ian Black expressed strong disapproval of California Governor Gavin Newsom’s recent social media campaign targeting President Donald Trump. This initiative, described as a “Media Blitz,” closely mimics Trump’s social media style, leading many to speculate that Newsom might be gearing up for a presidential run in 2028.

Responses to Newsom’s tactics have been mixed. Some see these social media maneuvers as a reflection of the Democratic Party’s struggles with unity and leadership. Others, however, view them as ineffective. Black voiced his frustration on CNN’s “Do I Have News For You”, saying, “I know I’m in the minority, but I can’t stand this. We shouldn’t reduce politics to cartoonish antics. I really don’t care about your online presence; just focus on doing your job.”

In response, Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett defended Newsom, stating that while some of his actions might appear “immature” or “ignorant,” they serve an important purpose: holding a mirror up to the follies of Trump’s supporters.

Comedian Dave Foley also chimed in, humorously noting that he finds Black’s desire for integrity “adorable.” Meanwhile, Bill Maher praised Newsom for his ability to “troll” Trump effectively, describing it as “very funny.”

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker contrasted himself with Newsom, highlighting that he presents similar points in a more mature and rational manner. “You don’t need to act like a child to convey your message,” he suggested.

Amber Ruffin added her thoughts, saying, “We already have voters who lean Democratic. What we need are those who might typically overlook us. Let’s embrace creativity, even if it means getting a little silly.”

As of now, Newsom’s office has not provided any comments regarding the ongoing discussions around his campaign strategies.
