McEnany Critiques Harris Over Unpopularity

Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany reacted sharply to Kamala Harris after the Vice President criticized her former boss for being unpopular.

In excerpts from Harris’ memoir, “In 107 Days,” she expressed frustration with President Biden’s administration, claiming she bears some “responsibility” for the ongoing border crisis. McEnany, speaking on “Fox & Friends,” asserted that Harris shouldn’t hold Biden accountable for what she described as his “incompetence” during his vice presidency.

McEnany dismissed Harris’s claims about border issues, labeling them as “false.” She emphasized that during President Trump’s early days in office, he took decisive actions, while the Democrats did not cooperate with him. “This wasn’t a disorganized situation,” she stated. “He addressed it effectively. He took action and resolved it with just a pen.”

McEnany criticized Harris further, implying that she missed the chance to defend herself. “And don’t tell me the president’s team didn’t support you. They noticed your shortcomings. There were whispers in the West Wing about Pete Buttigieg potentially taking your place,” she continued. “They recognized incompetence—it’s not a presidential matter.”

Biden designated Harris as the “border czar” to tackle the root causes of illegal immigration at the US-Mexico border. However, under her guidance, border crossings have surged, with over 3 million encounters recorded in 2023, according to Customs and Border Protection.

Harris later claimed that Biden’s staff was exacerbating negative narratives about her work and staff turnover, a claim McEnany found unconvincing.

“Look, there was a 92% staff turnover rate under her, and I never saw this kind of issue with Trump’s vice president. This situation is unique to Kamala Harris,” McEnany added. “It’s not about her being a woman; it’s about how she’s handled opportunities in the spotlight. We’ve seen the moments of embarrassment. I want to see a female vice president succeed, but it’s evident she might not be suited for this role.”

Harris’ approval ratings hit a historic low in 2023, according to NBC News. There were whispers among White House aides that she struggled to define her political agenda, with some suggesting she was not fit for the job before the 2024 election.

Harris also lost significant swing states to Donald Trump, marking a historic first for a Democrat in two decades when it comes to the popularity vote.
