San Francisco Promotes Brotherhood at the Ballpark
During a recent Giants game, where they defeated the Diamondbacks 11-6, a male fan wearing a white hat made headlines by winning a scramble for a foul ball. Instead of keeping it, he handed it over to a young girl nearby without a moment’s hesitation.
The Giants’ TV affiliate took to social media to highlight the moment, posting, “We don’t have Karens at our stadium.”
The mention of “Karen” refers to a Phillies fan who gained notoriety after a questionable incident where she yelled at a father who caught a ball for his child. This incident sparked quite a bit of outrage after it happened in Miami, as tensions ran high among fans competing for the ball.
The man eventually gave the ball to her, but the situation escalated further, leading to calls to identify and publicly shame the older female fan involved.
Social media responses were overwhelming, perhaps even a bit harsh, with many users mistakenly targeting female fans with grey hair.
In another notable case, a Sports Collectible Company is offering $5,000 for the ball caught by the woman now dubbed “Phillies Karen” online.
Meanwhile, a boy named Lincoln, who was present when a specific home run was played, had the opportunity to meet the player, Harrison Bader, and even received a signed bat from him.
Drew Feltwell, the boy’s father, has appealed for calm, asking people not to take extreme actions against the unnamed woman. “Don’t do anything to that woman,” he told a news outlet. “Let it be. Someone knows her and can talk to her. Things have gotten a bit out of hand online.”
On a brighter note, the Giants are currently performing well, closing in on the National League’s final wildcard spot, even though the Mets hold the tiebreaker advantage.
