Teacher Dismissed for Disciplining Student Who Opposed Gender Ideology in Children's Literature Class

Texas A&M University Issues Resignations Over Classroom Incident

Texas A&M University saw significant changes in leadership after a controversy erupted in a children’s literature class. This occurred when students challenged the professor’s lessons on gender ideology, resulting in their removal from the classroom for speaking out.

A video that circulated widely depicted a student confronting the professor over lessons related to “gender and sexuality,” suggesting these teachings might be against legal standards. The professor, asserting his legal and ethical right to discuss the topic, asked students to leave when they opposed him.

One of the students pointed out, “According to our president, there are only two genders,” arguing that the course content clashed with the religious beliefs held by many individuals.

Following a detailed review of the incident, the university’s president instructed the provost to terminate the professors involved, emphasizing that such decisions weren’t made lightly.

An online comment voiced outrage, noting that the student was removed from class for opposing lessons on transgender issues, which were seen by some as contradictory to their beliefs.

In a statement, the university highlighted that the course had been flagged for not aligning with reasonable curricular expectations, even though it had received prior approval.

The president mentioned that he had directed the removal of the dean and department heads from their positions over the matter. A follow-up statement clarified that despite previous warnings, certain content continued to be taught.

Efforts were made to provide alternative options for students to complete the course without the contentious material. The president elaborated that after realizing the content was still being taught, he felt compelled to take management actions.

University leaders were tasked with reviewing course offerings to ensure alignment with official descriptions. The president reiterated the importance of balancing academic integrity with responsibility, framing the issue as one related to academic duty rather than freedom.

In related developments, the Trump administration had earlier adopted strict definitions of gender, placing schools that taught gender ideology at risk of losing federal funding if they didn’t comply.
