Modern Politics and DEI Funding

Once upon a time, politicians in big cities were often seen wrapped in the haze of cigar smoke, dishing out jobs to loyal supporters in shadowy backrooms. For instance, a relative of a local ward leader might snag a cushy, no-show role on a committee, keeping the political machine running smoothly.

Fast forward to today, and while the overt corruption may have decreased, contemporary Democrats have adapted, finding new avenues—more nuanced and, dare I say, more advantageous to reward their allies. That’s where the push for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) comes into play.

DNC Endorsement of DEI Initiatives

During Biden’s time in office, the Department of Education alone reportedly allocated around $1 billion toward DEI initiatives. And this is just one federal entity; across numerous blue cities and suburbs, there’s a consistent effort to funnel more resources into these diversity programs.

Anyone who’s participated in corporate training sessions is likely aware of how taxpayer money gets absorbed into hiring DEI professionals and organizations, often with little to show for it.

These so-called experts have received millions from Democratic sources merely to assemble presentations on topics like privilege theory or unconscious bias. It’s enough to make historical figures like Boss Tweed envious of the current scheme.

In contrast to old-school corruption, which often benefitted men through political favors, DEI seems to frequently favor women, specifically in the political realm, leading the charge in this industry.

Recently, CNN’s Van Jones touched on this. He noted, “So far, since Trump became president, 300,000 black women have lost their jobs.” This striking figure highlights how these women, historically overlooked in corporate America, had often found refuge in the public sector.

Jones didn’t suggest that these positions were inherently necessary, but rather that they served as a form of employment for black women. He expressed concern for highly educated black women facing financial hardships, saying, “They are grappling with bankruptcy and foreclosure.”

Admittedly, not all the jobs mentioned are directly tied to DEI, but many are. Jones underscored that the design of these roles is primarily beneficial to black women, who traditionally make up a significant segment of the Democratic voter base.

Over recent years, taxpayers have shelled out vast sums for DEI initiatives, yet can anyone point to a notable success story? Are we really seeing fewer racists today? It seems Democrats operate under the belief that discussing the horrors of racism and projecting fear toward white individuals will somehow lead to better outcomes, particularly if there’s a financial investment involved.

However, as Jones paints a clearer picture, the objective isn’t necessarily to eradicate racism or rethink progressive ideals; it appears more focused on creating roles that cater to loyal constituents.

This is disheartening, considering that many individuals have dedicated years to pursuing careers in DEI, only for the whole enterprise to be labeled as a failed experiment. The general public seems uninterested, not to mention unwilling to shoulder the financial burden for it.

While I might have once thought we could give it a fair shot, that moment has passed. The approach to diversity appears to have only worsened race relations, and continuing to fund it with taxpayer money feels corrupt.

True, the political landscape has shifted; we’ve traded dark backrooms for trendy settings. Yet, whether one is basking in a café or creating materials on unconscious bias, the essence remains the same.

The Trump administration has every right to push back against federal-level DEI funding, and state and local governments should follow suit. This isn’t merely a question of money; it’s also about the integrity of action involved.
