Serious Shooting Incident at Evergreen High School
Denver – Three individuals are reported to be in serious condition following a shooting at Evergreen High School in the Denver Metro area on Wednesday afternoon, as confirmed by Jefferson County officials.
A spokesperson from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office indicated that at least two students were shot. They were transported to a nearby hospital. A representative from Common Spirit St. Anthony Hospital noted a total of three patients, all of whom are in serious condition.
During a press conference on Wednesday, officials stated that the shooting took place on school grounds and that all those injured are believed to be students. However, specifics on the number of shooters involved or their whereabouts remain unclear.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is aware of the situation and is prepared to assist. Additionally, local authorities, including alcohol, tobacco, firearms personnel, are responding.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis expressed that he is closely monitoring the situation. He emphasized the importance of safety in schools, stating that students should feel secure while attending school. He also shared his thoughts and prayers for the victims and the surrounding community.
U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen, representing Colorado’s 7th Congressional District, expressed her shock and sorrow regarding the incident. She mentioned hopes that law enforcement would ensure the safe return of all children, and noted ongoing communication with local legal officials to support the Evergreen community.
The Jefferson County officials first alerted the public about the active shooter situation shortly after 12:40 PM local time. Parents were advised against picking up their children due to the ongoing situation. By 1 PM, authorities designated a nearby elementary school as a reunification point.
An “Emergency Watch Alert” was also issued to residents in the area, informing them of the reported active shooter situation at schools.
A representative from West Metro Fire Rescue shared that they dispatched two ambulances, four medical staff members, and one chief for mutual assistance. No additional information has been provided at this time.
