Brock Purdy probably won’t play in Week 2 as the 49ers look to Mac Jones.

The San Francisco 49ers might face some tough times without quarterback Brock Purdy.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan mentioned on Wednesday that Purdy is a “long shot” to play due to injuries to his left shoulder and toe ahead of week two.

Shanahan also indicated that the recovery for these injuries could take several weeks.

The toe injury Purdy sustained while scrambling against the Seahawks is reportedly his main issue.

“I don’t know,” Shanahan commented about Purdy’s situation on Tuesday. “We need to see how he heals and how things develop through the week.”

Despite the injury, Purdy had a solid performance in the season opener, throwing a 4-yard touchdown pass to Jateng in the final moments for a 17-13 victory over the Seahawks.

Overall, he recorded two touchdowns and two interceptions, with 277 yards and a completion rate of 35 out of 26 passes.

If Purdy is unable to play against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Mac Jones is poised to step in as the starting quarterback.

Jones, a first-round pick in 2021, has played in a total of 49 games across his time with the Patriots and Jaguars.

Shanahan had positive remarks about Jones, who joined the team last week to back up Purdy.

“I think he’s really adapting to what we’re doing,” Shanahan said. “He’s been a little behind after an injury during camp, but he practiced well last week. If he needs to step up, the guys have faith in him, and I’m confident he’ll handle it.”

The 49ers also tested former Jets quarterback Mike White on Tuesday, as reported by Athletic.

Purdy’s injuries are a significant setback for the team, which has already placed star tight end George Kittle on the injury list due to a hamstring issue from week one.

Wide receiver Jauan Jennings is also dealing with shoulder problems but is believed to have “avoided a serious injury” and may play on Sunday.

Additionally, running back Christian McCaffrey faced a calf injury before the season started, yet managed to rush for 69 yards while adding 73 receiving yards.
