Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert release statements regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk

Late-Night Hosts Reflect on Assassination of Charlie Kirk

On Wednesday, late-night comedians Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert expressed their sorrow regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, during an event at a Utah campus.

Kimmel shared his feelings on Instagram, questioning the alarming trend of violence. “Instead of pointing fingers, can we just agree that shooting another person is monstrous? My family sends love to the Kirks and all innocent victims of senseless gun violence,” he said.

Colbert, speaking prior to his show, took a moment to extend his condolences. He recounted how he remembers the political turmoil of the 1960s and emphasized the futility of political violence. “This kind of behavior leads nowhere good, and I hope it’s an isolated incident instead of a precursor to more unrest,” he remarked.

Charlie Kirk was a notable figure in media and academia, known for launching an “American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University, where he was tragically killed. His influence extended across campuses nationwide.

In a statement, former President Trump highlighted Kirk’s legacy, calling him a “great American” who embodied core values like faith and freedom. Trump vowed that his administration would seek accountability for those responsible for the violence.

Trump also warned of the dangers surrounding political rhetoric that incites violence. “We must face the grim reality that violence often stems from the constant demonization of opposing views,” he stated.
