Big East recently outlined its meeting schedule for the upcoming season, and Zach Braziler from the Post has detailed St. John’s lineup below.
Soft start
This marks the fifth straight year that St. John’s will kick off its home meeting schedule, starting with a matchup against DePaul at Carnecca Arena on December 16th. Just two weeks after that, they’re set to face Georgetown in the nation’s capital for a New Year’s Eve showdown. The following Saturday, Providence visits, and St. John’s heads to Butler on January 6th. Out of these four rivals, only Providence is viewed as a likely NCAA Tournament team. St. John’s will likely enter each game as a favored contender.
Challenge in February
From February 6 to 25, St. John’s will face Connecticut twice. They’ll also host powerful teams like Providence and Marquette, alongside regular contender Clayton. The matchups with the Huskies frame two top-10 teams and stand out as some of the season’s most anticipated clashes in Big East play. The first game happens on a Friday night at Primetime Garden. After that, Rick Pitino’s sons, Richard and Xavier, will come to town on February 9th. The next Saturday, St. John’s will make a trip to Providence on Valentine’s Day. That week is packed, with St. John’s going up against three teams that could very well end up in the NCAA tournament: Providence, Marquette, and Clayton, in different cities.
Friendly Clothing Stretch
The last genuine trip for St. John’s will be against Marquette on February 18th. Among their final five games, three are set at home, while the others will be played in Connecticut and Seton Hall—at least that’s relatively close to Queens. There’s also a nice break before the Big East Tournament, since the regular season wraps up with Seton Hall on a Friday. The last three games are against opponents that are expected to finish toward the bottom half of the conference. The roads leading from Villanova and Georgetown at MSG on February 28th, and the Pirates, seem a bit more favorable.
