Chip Roy Calls for Investigation into Political Violence
Texas Representative Chip Roy is urging House leadership to establish a temporary committee aimed at investigating various threats to American life, including the breakdown of the rule of law and the murder of both well-known and ordinary citizens.
In a letter addressed to House GOP leaders, following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Roy criticized leftist groups for worsening the current political climate. He expressed his concern about the increasing instability and violence affecting Americans.
Roy proposed the creation of a select committee focused on understanding the money and influence fueling these radical attacks against American values. He stated, “The pattern cannot be denied. We are witnessing the collapse of law and order driven by anti-American ideology.” He referenced notable incidents, like the attempt on President Trump’s life in 2024 and the shooting targeting members of the Congressional baseball team in 2017, emphasizing that this is a broader issue beyond isolated political figures.
Roy further noted how Charlie Kirk had been targeted by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which had labeled him months earlier on its “Map of Hate.” He argued that organizations like ANTIFA are actively funding sophisticated campaigns that undermine law enforcement and disrupt communities.
In addition, he criticized a number of leftist public figures for contributing to the crisis at the U.S. border and reiterated the need to trace the financial sources behind these coordinated anti-American efforts. He concluded, “We must take necessary legal steps to stop them.” His remarks conveyed a sense of urgency, suggesting that shared ideals among Americans are at risk when faced with those he described as “demonic cadres of foreign interests.”
Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was shot at a Utah university event, leading to widespread grief and outrage from the right. The political landscape has become increasingly tense, with fear of violence affecting political figures on both sides.
In light of recent violence, including the homicide of a Minnesota Democratic legislator and her husband, many elected officials are now living in fear. Accusations are being exchanged between parties about fostering a culture of hatred that fuels such aggression.
On a more somber note, Roy gave an emotional tribute to Kirk at the U.S. Capitol, calling for Americans to engage in passionate discourse without fear. He reflected on historical turmoil, suggesting a need for a unifying purpose to move the nation forward.
Fox News Digital reached out to the SPLC and other organizations mentioned for comment but received no response.
