Public Assistance Requested in Charlie Kirk’s Assassination Case
Officials have made an urgent appeal for public assistance in the search for the individual responsible for the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
During a press conference on Thursday evening, notable figures including Utah Governor Spencer Cox, Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason, and FBI Director Kash Patel unveiled new footage and images of the unidentified shooter, who remains at large.
The released footage shows the shooter sprinting across the roof of the Lossee Center, where the fatal shot was fired. Afterward, the suspect leaped off the building onto the grass below, wandered to a nearby road, and disappeared into a wooded area.
On Wednesday, FBI official Robert Bohls confirmed the discovery of a “high-powered, bolt-action rifle” in the nearby woods, close to the shooting scene.
According to the FBI, the suspect was seen wearing a black shirt depicting an American flag and an eagle, accompanied by dark pants, Converse sneakers, a hat featuring a triangle logo, sunglasses, and carrying a black backpack. New images of the suspect were shared to aid in the ongoing investigation.
Gov. Cox stressed the critical role that public support plays in resolving such cases. The FBI has received more than 7,000 tips, marking the highest response since the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, and conducted approximately 200 interviews.
“We’re determined to capture this individual,” Governor Cox assured. He mentioned ongoing preparations to pursue the death penalty for the perpetrator.
He also alerted the public to the prevalence of misinformation circulating online, urging caution against sharing unverified news, which he claims is propagated by foreign bots.
“Charlie aptly stated that in tough times, we should set aside our devices and cherish moments with our families,” Cox noted. “There are entities out there that thrive on chaos. I urge everyone to disregard those harmful falsehoods.”
The FBI is offering a reward of $100,000 for information that leads to the shooter’s identification and arrest.
