Wedding Crash Mystery Finally Solved

“I don’t know this man,” said Michelle Wiley, reflecting on an unexpected sight in her wedding photos.

For four years, Wiley has puzzled over the identity of an uninvited guest who appeared in snapshots from her wedding day. Thanks to social media, the mystery has finally been unraveled.

“I’ve always wondered who he was and why he was there,” Wiley, 38, from the UK, shared. The seemingly random presence of an unfamiliar face at her November 2021 wedding had lingered on her mind. “It feels nice to know after all this time,” she added.

Wiley married her husband John at the Carlton Hotel in Prestwick, Ayrshire, and the unknown man was among the attendees she questioned friends and family about. However, no one could recall seeing him that day.

“Once I got a sample of my wedding photo, I realized something was off,” Wiley explained, noting that they had all been curious about the mystery guest long before social media came into play.

Determined to uncover the truth, Wiley began posting the images on Facebook. Unfortunately, progress was slow until this week.

“I looked at the photos and thought, maybe I could ask someone with a large following to help,” she recalled. Reaching out to content creator Dazza, she shared the photos with his 400,000 Facebook followers and 129,000 TikTok subscribers.

“Daz got it out there, and within two hours, we found him,” Wiley said, clearly relieved.

It turns out the intruder was Andrew Herriman. He wasn’t an opportunistic wedding crasher, but rather a man who inadvertently attended the wrong wedding.

“I was at the wrong wedding!” Herriman, 33, admitted after spotting himself in a wedding photo on Dazza’s page. He explained that four years ago, his partner was a male bridesmaid for a friend’s wedding, and miscommunication led him to believe it was at the Carlton Hotel instead of the actual location.

“For some reason, I thought it started at 2 PM at the Carlton when it was at the Great Western Hotel,” he said.

Arriving late, Herriman mistook the festivities outside for the wedding he was supposed to attend. “I thought, ‘Cool, this has to be the right place,’” he recalled, remembering how he felt confident until he approached the groom.

As Wiley began her walk down the aisle, realization hit him. “OMG, that’s not Michaela!” he exclaimed, recalling the moment he realized his mistake.

“You can’t just leave in the middle of a wedding,” he chuckled, sharing that he made a smooth exit after Wiley and John exchanged their vows.

Despite his unintentional interruption, he joked that he ended up being quite the hit that evening. However, the wedding photographer caught him in candid shots, leading to Wiley’s four-year-long search for his identity.

With Dazza’s help, Wiley and Herriman finally met this week. “It’s incredible,” Wiley said, laughing as she listened to his recount of the event. “I can’t believe something like this happened—it adds to the humor of it all.”

Now that they’ve connected, the two plan to keep in touch. Wiley reflected fondly on her special day, saying, “It was truly perfect, and this mistake just adds another layer to our memories.”

“It’s definitely brought smiles to everyone,” she concluded.
