Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre arrives for questioning about Biden's cognitive decline by House committee.

Former Press Secretary Testifies on Biden’s Health

On Friday, Carine Jean Pierre, the former White House press secretary for Biden, appeared on Capitol Hill to discuss accusations of the President’s mental decline. This hearing has stirred quite a bit of attention.

Jean Pierre has distanced herself from the Democratic Party and has authored several books critiquing the administration she once represented. She was brought in to testify before the House Oversight Committee, which has been investigating various claims related to the President.

James Kommer, the committee’s chairman, stated, “We intentionally wanted Jean Pierre to be among the last testimonies we bring.” He believes her upcoming book provides insights relevant to their inquiries.

Moreover, it’s suggested that she will touch on conversations with Vice President Kamala Harris regarding concerns about Biden seeking a second term, which some have deemed “reckless.”

The inquiry also includes allegations regarding the misuse of autopen for signing pardons, with thousands of pardons expected as Biden prepares to leave office.

When approached by reporters before her testimony, Jean Pierre dismissed speculations about Biden’s health, labeling a viral video of him at a summit as “cheap counterfeiting,” despite pushback from members of his political party.

A White House representative noted that even critics have acknowledged Biden’s gaffes, suggesting that cognitive tests were unnecessary according to his doctors. Jean Pierre emphasized that it’s not just her view; it’s the assessment of the President’s medical team. In February 2024, she reiterated that Biden is capable of staying on topic and understanding complicated issues daily.

Biden’s personal doctor, Kevin O’Connor, previously invoked the Fifth Amendment during questioning about the President’s health and chose not to disclose details regarding Biden’s physical exams, which notably did not include neurocognitive tests.

In a media interview prior to the President’s decision to abandon his 2024 re-election campaign, O’Connor stated that Biden’s mental fitness was “excellent.”

Amid these discussions, reports emerged detailing how Jean Pierre had allegedly used fellow spokesperson Andrew Bates to confront journalists in the waning months of Biden’s administration, turning the focus back to her own narrative after they had departed the White House.

Additionally, a newly uncovered email indicated that the President’s use of the autopen raised concerns within both the Department of Justice and the White House, particularly regarding its legality in commuting non-violent offenders’ sentences.

Kommer highlighted that discrepancies have emerged between what witnesses have testified and what the emails reveal, indicating a potential conflict in how the Biden administration utilized autopens.
