What Charlie Kirk represented for us

Charlie Kirk’s Tragic Death

Charlie Kirk passed away on September 10th, 2025.

Over the years, like many conservatives, I’ve come across countless videos featuring Charlie Kirk—on YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram. From interviews on Fox News to him engaging students on college campuses, he was a familiar face.

There’s something he once said that stuck with me: “Go outside, sit at the table for hours and hours, talk to people who come near you without revealing that you are also human.” Those words resonate.

I can’t pinpoint when I first heard of Kirk, but it was early in his journey, back when we were both younger, before either of us had kids.

Watching him grow over the years, I’ve seen his influence blossom alongside many in our generation. His assassination, though, has impacted me in a personal and profound way.

Mourning the Loss

I’m not the only one feeling this way. Just scrolling through X on Wednesday afternoon was overwhelming, flooded with shock, anger, and grief. It’s surprising, really, to see how deeply this has affected so many young people.

Even my parents spoke about it, sharing their own reflections. Almost every prominent figure in conservative politics expressed admiration for Kirk’s contributions. Ben Shapiro noted that he predicted Kirk would someday lead the RNC when they first met.

Yet, he wasn’t a politician in the traditional sense. He never held office. There’s usually a disconnect we feel with politicians—they often seem more like characters than real people, wrapped up in maintaining their image.

Kirk was different. He was an activist and a powerful advocate, someone who connected with people directly. We saw him as human, not just a persona on screens.

Enduring Thoughts

On a Thursday morning, a text from my sister interrupted my routine. She isn’t overly engaged with politics, especially with a 10-month-old at home. “I can’t stop thinking about it,” she messaged.

As I penned these thoughts, a friend reached out, expressing similar sentiments: “There are no words. It’s driving me crazy.”

The violence of Kirk’s murder has hit many young conservatives hard; they felt a connection. They’ve listened to him articulate their beliefs and inspire their outlooks on life.

For countless individuals, Kirk represented their hopes and dreams, an embodiment of the values they wish to instill in future generations. He passionately stood up for his beliefs, assuming the roles of husband and father.

A Legacy of Values

How many minds did Kirk truly touch during his life? Did students challenge their preconceived notions after hearing him speak? It’s hard to quantify the impact he had.

It takes courage to sit and face questions from anyone who approaches an open mic. Can I do that? I doubt it. Kirk engaged with so many, steering discussions to foster understanding. It’s a deeply American ideal, and unfortunately, he was killed while striving for this.

Remembering His Impact

Wednesday brought a post from Charlie, a video showing a young girl running into his arms at Fox News. They shared a moment filled with joy, and the accompanying text read, “Marriage, have children, stop living in oblivion. Leave a legacy and be brave. Happy Sunday.”

Kirk was dedicated to his beliefs and transformed them into action. He didn’t sit idly by or speculate. Instead, he actively sought to make a difference, aspiring for a brighter future while raising his family. He was living out the very principles he encouraged in others.

Charlie Kirk embraced marriage and parenthood, bravely forging a path that others could follow, leaving behind a lasting legacy.

May his soul find eternal peace.
