Incident in Chicago Suburb Involves Shooting
CHICAGO — The Department of Homeland Security reported that a suspect was fatally shot on Friday in a Chicago suburb. This occurred when the suspect attempted to evade arrest by driving and reportedly dragging an officer with his vehicle.
According to a news release, authorities were trying to arrest a man known for reckless driving. The man defied orders from officers and drove away. During the incident, one officer was struck and pulled into the car. Feeling his life was in danger, the officer discharged his weapon.
Both the officer and the suspect were taken to a local hospital, where the suspect was later pronounced dead.
Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin commented, saying, “We pray for the prompt recovery of the law enforcement officer involved. He acted appropriately, employing the necessary force to protect both himself and the public.”
The shooting occurred in Franklin Park, approximately 18 miles west of downtown Chicago. This incident happened just days before an immigration enforcement operation dubbed the “Midway Blitz” was set to take place in Chicago.
McLaughlin added that such events could potentially encourage undocumented individuals to resist law enforcement, possibly inflaming tensions around immigration issues.
