School Board Member Who Supported Spanberger Commended Kirk's Assassination

Reports indicate that some members of the school board who endorsed Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger expressed approval over the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Dot Hefron, a member of the Chesterfield County School Board, backed Spanberger’s campaign for governor, suggesting that people were “alright to film the Nazis.” This statement surfaced after Kirk was shot in the neck during an event at Utah Valley University on September 10th.

Authorities have confirmed that the individual responsible for Kirk’s assassination is in custody, identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.

“I must be old-fashioned, but I remember when filming the Nazis was acceptable,” Hefron reportedly shared on her Instagram story.

On December 15, 2023, Spanberger expressed her pride in announcing support from Hefron for her run for governor in a post. She acknowledged the contributions of Chesterfield to its students and families and thanked the community for Hefron’s perspective as both a parent and educator.

Hefron is described as a former housewife and roller derby enthusiast who stirred things up during her campaign for the Chesterfield County School Board, as noted in an article from Bitter Southerner.

In light of Hefron’s comments, Winsome Earle-Sears, the governor of Virginia and Republican candidate, asked whether Spanberger would disavow Hefron’s remarks.

Earle-Sears posted, “A member of the Chesterfield County School Board, who endorsed Abigail Spanberger, claimed we were fine with the Nazi shooting in response to the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Abigail, do you share this view?”

When asked about Hefron’s rhetoric, Spanberger emphasized that she condemns any attempt to downplay the brutal murder of Charlie Kirk or anyone else. She stated her clear stance on the matter to Breitbart News.

Spanberger’s statement included the importance of condemning violence in any form, expressing that disagreements should never evolve into violence. She reiterated that efforts to justify violence threaten the very fabric of society and urged all elected officials to unite in holding those accountable.

Editor’s Note: This article has been revised to include Spanberger’s statement, which was not available at the time of initial publication.
