Virginia Governor Calls for School Board Member’s Resignation

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) urged members of a school board to resign after a controversial comment made by Chesterfield County School Board member Dot Hefron regarding the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

In a post on X, Youngkin highlighted that “the leaders of both parties are merely.” Hefron had made a questionable comment about people needing to join together to “slay the Nazis,” prompting Youngkin to call for both Republican and Democrat leaders to reject her remarks.

“Chesterfield County Board of Education Chairman Dot Hefron must resign immediately after comments promoting the murder of Charlie Kirk,” Youngkin stated. He emphasized that anyone who endorses murder should not be near students, reiterating his commitment to denounce her comments and urging her to step down.

Reports indicate Hefron’s post on Instagram occurred following Kirk’s fatal shooting at Utah Valley University on September 10th. In her Instagram story, she allegedly remarked, “You call me old fashioned, but I remember when we were okay with filming the Nazis.”

Abigail Spanberger, the Democratic candidate for governor of Virginia, expressed pride in noting Hefron’s support for her campaign in a post dated December 15, 2023. “I would like to thank Chesterfield’s dedication to students and families for always sharing your perspective as a parent and educator,” Spanberger noted.

Spanberger condemned Kirk’s actions, stating he was trying to “justify or minimize horrifying murders.” She stressed that political disagreements should never lead to violence. “As the investigation continues, I think it’s important to state it clearly: I denounce any effort to justify or minimize the horrifying murder of Charlie Kirk,” she said. “We are a nation governed by law, and we have the right to freedom of speech.”

AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News reported that the suspected assailant in Kirk’s death was identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who is currently in custody.
