Rep. Bacon Discusses Trump’s Critique of Biden on Russian-Ukraine War
Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) commented on President Trump’s view, suggesting that Trump feels he will be “judging the history book” regarding how the Russian-Ukraine conflict is being managed.
Bacon stated, “That’s right, [former President] Biden, Zelensky’s war seems very morally blind and practically wrong,” during remarks made Saturday morning. He referenced Trump’s previous posts on the platform X, asserting, “President Putin is the invader here.”
He further emphasized, “Now, this war is under your watch, and history will assess your actions and inactions for decades to come.”
Efforts to obtain comments from the White House were made.
Bacon, who is not seeking reelection, often expresses his discontent with Trump’s perspective on the Eastern European conflict. Trump recently used Truth Social to call on NATO allies to stop importing Russian oil, mentioning he is “ready” to impose significant sanctions on Russia when NATO members follow suit.
Trump remarked, “NATO’s commitment to victory is not at its best, and the continued purchase of Russian oil has been shocking! This has notably compromised your negotiation stance against Russia.”
“Whenever you’re ready, I’m set to act. I believe that together, NATO can impose tariffs of 50% to 100% on China, which would greatly assist in bringing this war between Russia and Ukraine to an end,” Trump added.
During a segment on Fox News’ Fox and Friends, Trump also indicated his willingness to remain patient with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Although the proposed timeline for a meeting between Zelensky and Putin has elapsed, Russia continues to launch attacks on Kyiv and other urban areas. On Friday, Russia announced that talks with Ukraine were currently “suspended.”
Bacon had previously commended Trump in July regarding the conflict, suggesting strong sanctions against nations that buy Russian oil and gas, coinciding with Trump’s announcement of NATO’s plans to supply arms to Ukraine.
On Saturday, Trump pointed out that China is deeply connected to Russia and mentioned tariffs as a strategy to destabilize that relationship.
“This is not a Trump war (this wouldn’t have happened if I were still president!). It’s Biden and Zelensky’s war. I’m only trying to help end it and save countless lives—7,118 last week alone, which is unbelievable!” he expressed on social media.
“If NATO adheres to my suggestions, this war will conclude soon, and lives will be spared! If not, it’s just a waste of my time, energy, and U.S. resources,” he concluded.
