Texan A&M defensive back Bryce Anderson suffered a serious injury during a game on Saturday night. The incident occurred in the Aggies’ matchup against Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. Anderson collided with Irish tight end Eli Laridon right after Laridon caught a pass, leading to head and neck injuries that left him lying on the field for several minutes.
He remained on the ground for a bit before medical staff from both teams rushed in to assist him. While Anderson was down, the entire Aggies team, along with support staff, gathered around him in a moment of prayer.
Commentator Noah Eagle reflected on the somberness of the situation, stating, “Any injury is the worst part of the sport, especially for those who have fallen.” You could feel the concern on both the Aggies’ and Notre Dame’s sidelines.
Broadcaster Todd Blackledge also mentioned how the brotherhood extends across both teams, which was evident at that moment. Eventually, Anderson was placed on a stretcher with a neck brace. Even then, he managed to give a thumbs-up to his teammates, which prompted applause from the crowd at Notre Dame Stadium.
Blackledge noted the harsh realities of football, saying, “It’s a violent game, and everyone knows it, but you don’t ever expect an injury like this.” Details regarding the specific nature of Anderson’s injury remain unclear, though it seems to involve the neck and head area based on the incident.
Now 21 years old, Anderson is in his senior season with the Aggies, having played all 13 games last season. After finishing the previous season with an 8-5 record, Anderson expressed confidence in the team’s capabilities under head coach Mike Elko as they head into this year.
Reflecting on his commitment, he shared in April, “I’ve been focused on the details, and we know we’ll improve by spending another year in the system. We’re confident in our skills and ready to play fast.”
