An enthusiastic umpire from Bakersfield Little League has gained attention for his lively and animated presence during games, often seen sprinting and jumping around the field.
Sawyer Sparks has attracted notice for his lively personality and dedication to addressing every situation on the diamond quickly and effectively.
His rise to fame began when a parent recorded him officiating at a local game and posted the footage on Instagram. It quickly went viral, amassing around 126,000 likes by Friday.
Justin Ritchie, the parent who captured the footage, explained that he filmed Sparks to share the experience with his wife, who had not yet arrived at their son’s game. He initially joked that the umpire wasn’t doing a great job, only to be amazed by the responses the video received.
“The next day, I was taken aback by all the reactions and comments,” Ritchie said.
Sparks mentioned that his energetic movements are essential for accurate officiating, especially since he is often the only referee. “I want to ensure I make the most accurate call possible,” he stated.
After his newfound fame, Sparks had the chance to meet Ritchie in person, expressing gratitude for showcasing his officiating skills.
