Oregon Coach Lanning Remarks on Charlie Kirk’s Death
The loyalty of Charlie Kirk, a murdered conservative activist and dedicated Oregon Ducks fan, was well recognized. After Oregon’s recent victory against Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois, Ducks coach Dan Lanning shared a heartfelt message of support for Kirk’s family.
Lanning opened his remarks by highlighting the sense of unity and camaraderie within the Oregon Ducks locker room.
“I think there’s a lot our country can learn from the way we relate to one another in our locker rooms,” Lanning said following the game. “Honestly, some of that sense of togetherness seems to be missing in our society.”
He expressed his distress over the tragedy that befell Kirk and extended his condolences to Kirk’s family, revealing he hadn’t known Kirk was a Ducks supporter. “I feel for his wife, Erica, and their children. It’s heartbreaking to see such evil exist in our society,” he remarked.
Lanning lamented the ongoing violence and school shootings affecting families across the nation. “It’s just tragic. Every day, we’re faced with issues of violence, whether it’s a child from a school or from a church. People seem to be losing track of the importance of life.”
In his address, Lanning also reached out to those with differing political views, stating clearly, “I love you. The value of life is paramount, and no one should have to endure what Charlie and his family have faced.”
He called for bipartisan cooperation in the political arena, urging for “common-sense” reforms that would keep children safe in schools and restrict access to firearms for individuals who pose a threat. “We need to recognize the evil in these situations and make sure our children don’t live in fear while attending school. It’s one of the most essential parts of their lives; they deserve protection.”
“Common sense dictates that we must address mental health issues and firearm accessibility. It’s about understanding the reality,” he added.
Charlie Kirk, aged 31, was fatally shot shortly after speaking at an event at Utah Valley University. The founder of Turning Point USA succumbed to his injuries at a Utah hospital. A 22-year-old Utah resident, Tyler Robinson, has reportedly confessed to the shooting.
