Europe’s Existential Crises

Europe is facing a slew of existential problems.

However, these issues seem self-inflicted, heavily influenced by dominant cultures that often embrace overly optimistic yet dangerous ideas.

These crises are now reaching a critical point.

In fact, they’re rapidly eroding the very civilizations that were envisioned as utopias.

The alarm over global warming has largely ignored the gradual shift away from traditional energy sources.

Instead, there’s an elite push for extreme “net zero” policies.

This radical stance has led to a reliance on expensive and unreliable solar and wind energy. Consequently, energy costs have surged.

The green elite appear unconcerned about shutting down nuclear, coal, gas, and oil production, which threatens industries, lowers living standards, and risks plunging Europe into poverty.

Germany, once a strong economic leader in Europe, has deteriorated significantly.

This shift mirrors efforts dating back to the Obama and Biden administrations in the US.

Both aimed to diminish fossil fuel production and usage, regardless of the costs, and the implications for the middle class and poorer citizens.

Moreover, over the last fifty years, affluent Westerners have increasingly rejected the notion of a standard lifestyle.

Many have claimed that traditional families with two or three kids are outdated or narrow-minded.

There’s a sense that children have hindered women’s ambitions and lifestyles.

They argue large families impose unnecessary financial burdens and perpetuate harmful stereotypes, affecting marginalized communities.

This shift has led to dismal birth rates in the West, especially in Europe (1.4) and the US (1.6).

Academia, the media, and various organizations have pushed so-called “empowerment” ideals, despite evidence suggesting that societies unable to sustain population growth ultimately falter.

An additional factor contributing to this Western crisis is unchecked illegal immigration.

Once again, elite circles have dismissed the importance of integrating immigrants into host cultures.

Rather than fostering successful integration, they have essentially ignored immigration laws.

This welcomed millions of undocumented individuals, many of whom show little interest in adopting the host country’s values.

The fallout has included unsustainable social welfare systems, rising crime rates, and increased societal tensions.

A further troubling aspect is the rise of a new form of tribalism, often framed as diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Elites in Western societies have sought various compensatory actions for non-white communities.

Although these issues exist globally, slavery was among the first injustices addressed in self-critical Western cultures.

Non-white immigrants understand well why individuals from non-Western countries seek refuge in wealthier Western nations.

Meritocracy, democratic governance, and the practice of self-critique offer more opportunities for prosperity and freedom than often exist in their native lands.

However, a fixation on race can lead to exemptions and benefits that foster tribalism and civil unrest.

To maintain special preferences, there emerges a narrative of perpetual victimhood.

The Western concept of enlightenment—that individuals outweigh groups—is being overshadowed by superficial tribal identities.

There is still some hope since these crises have been embraced by a small, secular elite who perhaps believe their wealth and freedom are unassailable.

They may think they are immune to the repercussions of their choices, but this isn’t the case.

To address these challenges, Western societies need to stop apologizing for their historical legacies and instead celebrate their inclusive European, Jewish, and Christian roots.

After all, the current situation, marked by large numbers of undocumented immigrants, isn’t ideal, but it’s certainly better than worse alternatives.

Western nations must resist radical environmental policies and evaluate the tangible impacts of their initiatives.

Furthermore, the traditional multi-generational family structure is not something to be dismissed; rather, it’s an integral part of a successful civilization.

If immigrants wish to move to the West, they should be reminded why they seek such change and encouraged to assimilate into the prevailing cultural norms.

Finally, Americans need to engage in conversations, particularly with those from different races or tribes, who perpetuate stereotypes and hatred.

When the notion of victimhood is weaponized, it’s time to say enough is enough.
