iOS 26 is coming soon: When to expect the next big iPhone update

It’s mid-September, which only means one thing for Apple users: a significant iOS update is coming soon.

Last week, during a much-anticipated event, Apple confirmed when iOS 26 would be released.

Typically, Apple sticks to a yearly timeline. They announce upcoming device and software details in June, then we get to use them by September. Of course, this comes after an event, like the one on Tuesday, where all the new specs and technology are laid out, followed by a launch the next week.

If you’re not rushing to get the new iPhone Air, the update everyone will be talking about is definitely iOS 26.

Users in Apple’s Developer Program and Beta Software Program have already had a taste of some features, including the notable Liquid Glass. Other features include a snooze option for alarms and an Apple Intelligence tool that helps screen unnecessary calls, as well as improvements to the reminder app.

Which devices will support iOS 26?

Here’s a rundown of which iPhones, iPads, Watches, and Macs will be compatible with iOS 26:

iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max Watch Series 6 and newer, SE 2 and 3, and all Ultra Models

How do you check your device model?

To check which iPhone you have, open the Settings app and click on General.

If you need to identify your Mac, you can access this tool from the Apple menu. Apple also offers guidance on determining your iPad model through model numbers.

Why might iOS 26 not download?

There could be several reasons for this. If your device isn’t on the list, it may simply be too old for the new features. Essentially, Apple classifies such devices as “technically outdated.”

If your device qualifies but you’re still having trouble downloading iOS 26, double-check your internet connection. Typically, installing updates requires a Wi-Fi connection. You’ll also need to plug your device in and make sure you’ve cleared enough storage space.

When will iOS 26 be available?

According to reports, previous iOS updates released around 10 AM or 1 PM. So, it’s likely iOS 26 will drop at a similar time.
