Most NFL home teams observed a moment of silence for Charlie Kirk on Sunday, but the Bengals, Lions, Colts, and Ravens did not participate. Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative activist, was fatally shot while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University last Wednesday.
Teams like the Jets, Cardinals, Dolphins, Saints, Steelers, Titans, Chiefs, and Cowboys honored him with a moment of silence before their games, as reported.
The NFL also held a silent tribute before the Packers’ game at Lambeau Field on Thursday. Following that, the league announced that individual teams would decide how to memorialize Kirk moving forward.
The NFL stated, “Last night’s moment was a league decision. It depends on the clubs involved this Sunday, as well as various games promoted nationally and other moments in-game.” They referenced past tributes during significant events, like school shootings and attacks on places of worship.
Additionally, the Yankees paid tribute to Kirk before their game on Thursday.
During the Jets game, images of Kirk along with his family were shown on the video board.
Tyler Robinson, 22, has been named as a suspect in Kirk’s assassination and is expected to face aggravated murder charges.
Looking ahead, three more NFL games are scheduled this week: the Falcons will host the Vikings on Sunday night, the Buccaneers will play the Texans, and the Chargers will face the Raiders on Monday.
