Controversial Referee Decision Aids Colts in Dramatic Win Against Broncos

Colts’ Controversial Victory Over Broncos

There’s a saying that resonates particularly well on Sundays. If you’ve been keeping an eye on social media—especially around the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts game—you might have noticed a lot of grumbling from Colts fans about the referees’ calls. Interestingly, as the game wrapped up, the referees seemed to have tilted the scales in favor of the Colts, helping them secure a win.

During the decisive drive, the Colts made some puzzling choices, notably in a tense moment with just over three minutes left to play. Their focus shifted to setting up a game-winning field goal.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen leaned heavily on running back Jonathan Taylor, who racked up an impressive 165 yards. With Taylor’s efforts, Indianapolis advanced into scoring position at the Broncos’ 43-yard line. Instead of keeping the momentum and attempting to gain more ground, though, they opted to run the ball three consecutive times, netting minimal yards. Eventually, Steichen brought in kicker Spencer Schrader to attempt a long field goal, specifically one stretching 60 yards.

To his credit, Schrader had never missed a kick in his NFL career, though his attempts had never exceeded 48 yards. Still, Steichen believed he could handle the pressure. Unfortunately, the kick went awry. Just when it seemed the game was over, the Broncos were hit with a 15-yard penalty for “leverage” during the kick attempt.

This unexpected call gave the Colts a second chance, altering the course of the game and leading them to victory.

As the social media buzzed about the wild sequence of events, fans were left wondering—was this the right call by the officials?
