HBO Max’s Pit Shines at 2025 Emmy Awards
HBO Max’s Pit took home the prestigious award for Outstanding Drama Series at the 2025 Emmy Awards. The show’s lead, Noah Weil, also celebrated his first Emmy win for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. The series managed to stand out against popular contenders like Under, Retirement, Slowly Horse, Paradise, White Lotus, and Our Last, firmly establishing its status as a major hit both critically and commercially.
Set in the emergency room of a fictional facility, Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital, Pit unfolds in real-time, depicting the intense challenges faced during a single disastrous shift. Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavich, played by Weil, leads the narrative.
The show’s gritty realism and exceptional performances have attracted acclaim, particularly for its dramatic third act, which follows a major catastrophe in the ER.
The night culminated with the awards for Best Lead Actor and Best Drama Series. Some insiders noted that Retirement was a strong competitor, especially after its success at the Creative Arts Emmys. However, Pit emerged victorious, further solidifying its standing in the industry when Katherine Lanatha won for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Weil’s acceptance speech was heartfelt; he expressed gratitude for everyone involved in Pit, from creator R. Scott Gemmill to the background actors. “You all bring your best every day, and that motivates me,” Weil remarked. He also dedicated the award to those working on the front lines, saying, “This is for anyone going out or coming off a shift tonight; thank you for what you do.”
Gemmill received the award for Best Drama Series and humorously remarked on Weil’s absence during the acceptance. The night featured a lineup of iconic TV figures, including Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni, presenting awards.
Looking ahead, Pit is currently in production for its second season, set to premiere on HBO Max in early January 2026.
