Intense Moments Between Chris Jones and Jalen Hurts
Chris Jones had some notable stats, while Jalen Hurts focused on the game’s outcome. A memorable exchange took place between the two when Jones seemed to taunt Hurts during a play, saying, “You don’t even have 100 yards.” To which Hurts shot back, “We won the game and closed your ass.”
After the game, as the clock wound down, Jones looked a bit shaken by the loss. Lane Johnson, an Eagles offensive lineman, remarked, “(Jones) is probably one of the best trash-talkers in the league. Top notch.”
As the game concluded, Fox’s commentary team noted that Kevin Burkhardt might have been a little frustrated with Jones’ antics during the closing moments.
This loss puts the Chiefs at 0-2 for the season, marking the first time Patrick Mahomes has faced three consecutive losses in his career. This series of defeats comes a few months after the Eagles dominated the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
In that Super Bowl match, Hurts and the Eagles had an impressive performance against Jones and the defense. However, Kansas City’s defense rose to the occasion on Sunday, giving them a shot at victory.
Though Jones had a solid game, he also acknowledged how effectively the Chiefs defended against the Eagles’ passing game. Hurts completed only 15 of 22 attempts without getting any touchdowns or interceptions.
The Eagles’ running game was decent, finishing with 34 carries for 122 yards and one touchdown. Despite Jones and the defense limiting the Eagles to 216 total yards, Kansas City’s offense struggled.
Missing key players like Xavier Worthy and Travis Kelce, the Chiefs found it difficult to generate points for the second consecutive week.
A pivotal moment occurred early in the fourth quarter when the Eagles were up 13-10. Mahomes attempted a quick pass to Kelce, who was closely guarded by the Eagles’ Andrew Mukuba. The ball was intercepted, leading to a touchdown that increased Philadelphia’s lead to 20-10.
Next, the Chiefs will head to MetLife Stadium to face the Giants, while the Eagles will host the undefeated Rams.
Chiefs manager Andy Reid acknowledged the need for adjustments, saying, “We can’t keep doing the same things. We have to dial something different.”
