Injury Update: Jaden Daniels Faces Knee Sprain
Jaden Daniels, the quarterback for the Commanders, came away from the game against the Packers with a knee sprain. Reports on Monday highlighted concerns about his availability for the upcoming match against the Raiders.
During the 27-18 loss at Lambeau Field, Daniels endured a tough game, being hit 12 times and sacked four times, which limited him to just 17 rushing yards.
Fortunately, this injury isn’t thought to be serious. However, it does raise questions about the immediate future of the Washington team, as they may have to rely on their backup QB, Marcus Mariota. It’s worth noting that Mariota hasn’t started a game since 2022 with the Falcons.
As the second overall pick in the 2015 draft, Mariota has some experience, having thrown for 364 yards and four touchdowns in three games as a backup last season.
Missing Daniels would take away another threat from the Commanders’ offense. Daniels, 24, made a strong impression in his rookie season in 2024, leading the team to a 12-5 record. He recorded impressive stats, including 3,568 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, while also adding 891 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
Washington managed to win its first playoff game in 19 seasons, defeating both the Buccaneers and the Lions, though they fell to the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. In the two starts of the current season, Daniels has thrown for 433 yards and three touchdowns, along with 85 rushing yards.
Following the loss to Green Bay, Daniels maintained a positive outlook, stating, “No one in this locker room expects to press the panic button. We’ve faced a really good team and it’s been shortened, so we’re moving on to the next game.”
Now, as the team prepares for their next challenge, they’ll be hoping for quick healing for their quarterback.
