Suspect in Charlie Kirk’s Assassination Makes Online Remarks
The individual accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, made comments online shortly before his arrest, according to a report by The Washington Post, which included screenshots and statements from two sources. Tyler Robinson, aged 22, allegedly indicated to a friend that he had killed a conservative activist just hours before he was taken into custody for the shooting that occurred at Utah Valley University (UVU) on September 10 in Orem, Utah. He said, “Guys, I have bad news for you guys… I’m sorry for all of this.”
In further conversations on chat platforms, Robinson reportedly mentioned that he planned to turn himself in to the sheriff and expressed gratitude to online friends, thanking them for “every good time and laughter.” Law enforcement has received the chat messages from Discord for use in their case against him. Interestingly, the company noted that there is no evidence to suggest the suspects had premeditated the act or promoted violence through the platform.
As per officials, Robinson, who holds left-wing views, ascended to a rooftop near UVU and fatally shot Kirk in the neck with a rifle while in the midst of a discussion at an outdoor student event. Furthermore, he talked about leaving the rifle at various “drop points” with a roommate, as detailed in the criminal affidavit. Following a confrontation with his father regarding the shooting, Robinson chose to surrender, with a family friend also having contacted the authorities.
Robinson is expected to face both federal and local charges related to Kirk’s murder, which were reportedly filed earlier this week. Both Discord and the Utah Department of Public Safety have not responded to inquiries from the media. Additionally, the FBI’s Salt Lake City office has chosen not to comment on the situation.
