Top quarterback waiver wire options for Week 3 in fantasy football

Welcome to our third week of tracking the top waiver wire quarterbacks. It’s been quite a journey for fantasy quarterbacks over the past two weeks, and there are definitely some appealing options out there.

Let’s take a look at some QB performances from week two. This info could help when scouting for the waiver wire ahead of week three. We define waiver additions as those quarterbacks on rosters in about 60% of Yahoo Leagues.

Daniel Jones, QB, Colts (17%)

Next three matchups: @ten, @lar, lv

Jones has continued to cover for any passing shortcomings with a rushing touchdown. It’s tough to say whether this is sustainable, but he does bring a solid rushing ability. The team appears ready to let him handle goal-line situations. Plus, he doesn’t tend to make careless throws, has a strong running back to aid him, a promising rookie tight end, and a capable receiver to lean on if needed. Notably, he put up a top-five fantasy day against the Denver Broncos, known for their strong defense.

Blythe Young, QB, Carolina Panthers (19%)

Next three matchups: ATL, @NE, MIA

Young had a rocky start, fumbling for a defensive touchdown from the Cardinals, but rebounded by completing 35 of 55 passes for 328 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception. Sure, the Panthers might not usually pass 55 times, but given their defensive struggles, he might have to keep flinging it. His upcoming matchups look somewhat promising, too.

Jake Browning, QB, Cincinnati Bengals (0%)

Next three matchups: @min, @den, det

Browning has reliable weapons in Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, and he’s not shy about using them, as demonstrated by Chase’s impressive performance. Browning stepped in after Joe Burrow hurt his toe and managed to complete 21 of 32 throws for 241 yards with two touchdowns, even scrambling for a game-winning score. However, he also had three interceptions, which complicates the picture.

Burrow might return this season, but Browning could still gain value as a starting option. The Bengals face Minnesota soon, which makes things tricky, especially with upcoming games against Detroit and Denver. It might be tough to start him in the next couple of weeks, but he’s part of an explosive offense that could help boost his stats.

Mac Jones, QB, San Francisco 49ers (3%)

Next three matchups: Ari, Jax, @lar

Jones completed 26 of 39 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns against the Saints. He doesn’t necessarily need to be exceptional to post good numbers within the 49ers’ offense. If you’re in need of a quarterback, he could be a decent spot starter.

While we aren’t sure when Brock Purdy will be back, Jones may have a few more opportunities to start. After observing the Cardinals and Jaguars’ defenses recently, those next two home games might not be as intimidating.

Spencer Lattler, QB, New Orleans Saints (2%)

Next three matchups: @SEA, @Buf, NYG

Lattler displayed a strong arm, achieving a nice fantasy performance with 25 of 34 passes completed for 207 yards and three touchdowns against the 49ers. His fast-paced offense under Kellen Moore gives him a lot of chances to find the end zone, although the running game struggles with an aging Alvin Kamara taking on a lot of the load. Unfortunately, the upcoming matchups may present challenges.
