Phillies Celebrate Another NL East Title

In a wild celebration, Bryce Harper was spotted pouring champagne over himself after the Philadelphia Phillies clinched their second NL East title. The jubilant moment followed a thrilling 6-5 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers that extended into extra innings on Monday night.

Teammate Kyle Schwarber felt the energy in the dark visitor clubhouse, where teammates playfully splashed beer around as they celebrated. “I’m being hammered,” Schwarber joked in a video capturing the raucous atmosphere.

The Phillies are on a quest for their third World Series title since 2008, eyeing a strong finish as October approaches. Harper expressed optimism, stating, “We’re playing really good baseball right now. We just keep the bigger picture in mind—that we want to win.”

Philadelphia had already secured its entry into the playoffs earlier on Sunday when the San Francisco Giants fell to the Dodgers. With the Mets idle the following day, the Phillies needed this win to emerge as the first division champions in Major League Baseball this season. Although they faced challenges, overcoming three narrow leads, they ultimately triumphed for their ninth victory in 11 games and now lead the Mets by a game and a half in the NL East.

Despite a slow start, with just Schwarber’s 53rd home run marking the team’s first hit until the seventh inning, Harper and Weston Wilson stepped up with key home runs as they battled the defending champions.

Schwarber later reflected on the victory, saying, “You have to enjoy this. This doesn’t always happen.” Following the final out, the team gathered around the mound for celebratory photos amid cheering fans at Dodger Stadium.

Manager Rob Thomson praised the team, commenting on their resilience and unwavering effort. “They just keep fighting, and I’m proud of them. This is a really special group,” he said. This victory marks the earliest clinching of the division in Phillies history, occurring two days sooner than the 2011 team that achieved NL East honors on September 17th. This year’s clinch came in Game 151.

With a record of 90-61, the Phillies have now achieved three seasons with 90 or more wins, a feat matched by only two other teams in franchise history.

Thomson’s accolades continued as he became the third manager in Phillies history to secure consecutive division titles, following in the footsteps of legends Charlie Manuel and Danny Ozark. He is also the fourth manager in MLB history to lead his team to the postseason in each of his first four full seasons.

“I don’t feel 62 right now,” Thomson remarked. “The last four years have been my most enjoyable chapter in baseball. The guys make it so fun,” he added, highlighting the vibrant team spirit that surrounds them.
