Trooper Loses Life While Assisting Sheriff's Deputies

SAN JACINTO COUNTY, Texas — A tragic incident occurred Monday night when a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper lost their life in a serious crash on a rural road in East Texas. The trooper was on the way to assist deputies from the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office.

The trooper was responding to a request for help when, traveling along FM 945, they reached the East Fork of the San Jacinto River Bridge. Unfortunately, as they entered a curve, they lost control of the vehicle, according to reports from local sources.

The patrol car veered off the road, collided with a pine tree, and subsequently erupted in flames. It seems the troopers couldn’t escape the SUV.

A dispatcher at the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency call around 9 PM and dispatched firefighters to the crash site. By the time they arrived, the patrol vehicle was engulfed in flames.

Rescue teams searched the area but found no sign of the troopers nearby the vehicle.

Interestingly, this accident occurred just 10 feet away from another fatal incident that police recently investigated.

Details about the type of assistance the troopers were looking for at the time of the crash remain unclear. DPS investigators spent about five hours at the scene, examining what had happened.

San Jacinto County Sheriff Sam Houston urged the community to keep the trooper’s families in their thoughts. He expressed deep condolences for the loss of the trooper, emphasizing the grief shared among colleagues within the Texas Public Safety Department. “Our law enforcement community feels this loss profoundly,” he remarked.

A formal statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety is anticipated to be released later on Tuesday.
