Joe Burrow Foundation Cuts Ties with Judge Following Controversial Comments

The Joe Burrow Foundation has severed its connection with Hamilton County Judge Ted Berry after he allegedly made supportive remarks on social media regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Joe Burrow, the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback, announced this decision in a statement released Friday, stating that he has “ended” the involvement of certain advisory board members. The foundation aims to uphold values centered around doing good, and Burrow expressed that recent comments were out of line, saying:

“Their comments do not reflect our values or our mission. We are committed to accountability and respect for everyone.”

Although the statement did not explicitly mention Berry or reference Kirk’s murder directly, it was evident that the foundation deemed the remarks inappropriate. Berry was previously listed as an advisory committee member on the foundation’s website. Fox News Digital has reached out for clarification on Berry’s status.

Ohio State Assemblyman Adam Matthews shared the foundation’s statement on social media and subsequently confirmed to Fox News Digital that Berry has been removed from the advisory board. Some Republican lawmakers have also called for Berry’s resignation following his comments that Matthews described as “celebratory” in a manner that was ultimately unacceptable.

“Judges must be the pillars of equity and justice in our community,” Matthews remarked. He expressed outrage over Berry’s comments, highlighting that such behavior does not align with the impartiality expected from someone in his position.

Matthews indicated that if Berry does not resign, he will file a formal complaint with the Ohio Supreme Court’s disciplinary office.

Berry, who is set to retire in January 2026, stated that he does not support violence and expressed regret if his comments caused a division.

In light of the situation, Hamilton County Democratic Party Chairman Alex Lincer mentioned that the judge is barred from attending future judicial events due to his remarks. Matthews praised Lincer’s response and reiterated the call for Berry to step down, emphasizing the importance of accountability in the judiciary.

The controversy surrounding Berry follows the assassination of Charlie Kirk, which has triggered a nationwide discussion regarding political violence and the expected conduct of public officials.
