Shea LaBeouf Reflects on Turbulent Relationship with John Voight

Shea LaBeouf once had a heated confrontation with veteran actor John Voight over political differences. The dispute escalated to the point where LaBeouf threatened to confront Voight at his home.

In the recent documentary “Megadoc,” LaBeouf disclosed details about this incident. The documentary focuses on the 2024 film “Megalopolis,” featuring both LaBeouf, 39, and the 86-year-old Oscar winner.

LaBeouf recounted, “We had a big fight on the phone. I told him I was going to come to his house for a fist fight, and then I hung up.” It’s been years since they last communicated, he noted.

This altercation took place around 2016, during Trump’s initial presidential election. Following over a decade of mentorship from Voight, who had guided LaBeouf from a young actor to a Hollywood star, their relationship hit a rough patch.

They first crossed paths on the set of “Holes” in 2003, later collaborating again on the blockbuster “Transformers” in 2007. LaBeouf reflects, “He was like my mentor at a young age. Voight was the first real actor I ever met.”

Voight, a staunch conservative, has openly supported Trump in both elections. He stands apart from the predominantly left-leaning entertainment industry.

Despite his past political activism, LaBeouf has not aligned himself with Trump. In 2017, he established an art installation in New York City titled “He Doesn’t Divide Us.”

Voight’s political stance has consistently contradicted the trends in Hollywood, positioning him as a “special ambassador” alongside other conservative figures.

LaBeouf mentioned, “I was in the midst of taking the ninth step in this program, and I had to make amends with Voight. I love him so much.” Their journey from conflict to healing reflects a nuanced perspective on friendship and mentorship.
